We thoroughly wash each pair after dyeing before it reaches you. However, if you have sensitive skin or a known sensitivity to black walnut, we recommend taking extra care and washing the socks before wearing. If irritation occurs, discontinue wear.

Each sock from this collection wasn’t just manufactured in our home state of Tennessee, they were hand-dyed by our team, using native black walnut hulls.

Field Study was created as a 3-pack collection: three unique results of one hands-on experiment. Shaped by process and embracing natural variation, no two pairs are exactly alike.

STEP 1 NATIVE DYES Tennessee walnuts are crushed, finely ground, and simmered to produce a natural brown dye.

STEP 2 EACH BATCH HAND-DYED Vision Quarter Crew socks are added. One dye bath, three batches.

STEP 3 STEEPED Each batch steeps for a different length of time, so the same dye yields three distinct shades.
